Volunteer Opportunities
Anyone over the age of 13 and groups of younger individuals
with adult supervision are welcome to apply to volunteer at
Deer Lodge Centre. Our volunteers contribute to the quality
of life of patients and residents in many different ways.
Commitments also vary. Some volunteer opportunities are flexible,
while others require a more structured time commitment.
Auxiliary Members work together to raise funds to
purchase equipment or comfort and entertainment items for
residents and patients of the Centre.
Many independant residents and patients may go to the cafeteria
at mealtimes for a change of scenery and variety of food selections.
Our Cafeteria Volunteers are there to lend a hand!
Chad's Bar is open to residents and patients every
afternoon and is operated by volunteers.

Volunteers involved in the Friendly Visiting program
visit residents and patients and engage in a wide range of
activities such as playing a game of cards or going for a
walk.
The Dancing Bear Gift Shop offers snacks and beverages
as well as gift items and toiletries. It is open 7 days per
week and operated by volunteers.
Life Story Volunteers research residents' histories
and write their stories to be shared with their caregivers.
The intent of this project is to provide information to the
health care worker to establish a meaningful relationship
and improve overall care.
Meal Assistance Volunteers help residents and patients
during mealtimes and ensure they receive a hot enjoyable meal
and a visit too!
Medical Escort Volunteers accompany residents and
patients to appointments outside of the Centre.

Spiritual Care Volunteers work to meet the needs of
the residents and patients by offering a Spiritual visit or

What to Expect When You Apply to Volunteer at DLC
Deer Lodge Centre carries out a comprehensive process for
accepting volunteers. Once the application is received, the
Manager of Volunteer Services will arrange an interview session
similar to a job interview. As with paid employment, a reference
check, offer of a suitable position, orientation and training
are part of the process. Not all volunteer applicants will
successfully make it through the screening and training process.
Additionally, from application through training and starting
in the volunteer position can take some time.
The Centre wants to make sure that all its volunteers and
who they work with have a positive experience. Any questions
or concerns regarding applying to volunteer at Deer Lodge
Centre can be directed to the Volunteer Services Office.
