Computer Training Lab
Providing an Educational Opportunity
The Life and Learning Centre is a 10,000 square foot facility
designed to meet Deer Lodge Centre's growing needs.
Housed within the Life and Learning Centre is a new Computer
Training Lab. Providing educational opportunities for our
staff continues to be paramount. The new Computer Lab will
accommodate these learning opportunities and ensure our dedication
to excellence and innovation.
The success of any training program is dependent, in part,
on a professional learning environment. The new Computer Training
Lab in the Life and Learning Centre has been designed with
this in mind. Modern and ergonomic furniture, soft muted task
lighting, climate controlled air system and high tech equipment
all contribute to the students' comfort and stimulate a positive
learning environment.
High Tech Equipment
The Computer Lab consists of 8 student workstations plus
an Instructor workstation. The furniture has been designed
for ergonomic comfort, including adjustable keyboard trays
and multi-task chairs with adjustable height/tilt.
The new computer workstations provide first-class performance,
ensuring a high degree of consistency and reliability. Each
desktop is configured with the Windows 2000 operating system
and the Microsoft Office 2000 suite. Other configurations
can be requested.
Instructor-led Computer Training
Deer Lodge Centre employs an eHealth Services Educator who
offers instructor-led computer training to Deer Lodge Centre
and WRHA employees. Training is focused on Microsoft Office
2000 core applications with introductory through to expert
levels. The courses are designed to assist students to gain
the technological skills needed in today's work force. Customized
training courses covering specialized applications used at
Deer Lodge Centre are also offered.
Computer Lab Rental
The Computer Lab is available for rent to external agencies
for a fee, with or without an instructor. Also, external agencies
can attend instructor-led computer training if space is available,

Computer Training Offered
The following courses are offered on a regular basis in the
core applications of Microsoft Office 2000, including Windows,
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Training is also available for
Novell GroupWise and other special software applications.
Courses cover introductory through to expert levels with each
level consisting of 7 hours of instruction. Workshops are
also offered for those people who find it difficult to get
away for a full day of training. A prerequisite may be required
for some courses.
Windows 2000:
Students are introduced to the windows environment, including
menus, dialog boxes, toolbars, help and find features. Using
the Explorer to manage files is also included.
Word 2000 (Levels 1, 2 and 3)
From introductory through to expert, students learn how to
create letters, memos and sophisticated documents. Advanced
features such as table design, template and form creation
are also covered.
Excel 2000 (Levels 1, 2 and 3)
Starting with the fundamentals of spreadsheets, students learn
to use formulas, organize and chart data and database features.
PowerPoint 2000 (Levels 1 and 2)
Creating presentations has never been easier. Students will
learn to use the design and content templates, clip art gallery,
animation features and much more.
Outlook 2000 (Level 1 and 2)
Learn how to use Outlook to manage and prioritize your time.
The features of email, calendar, contacts and tasks are explored
in detail.
GroupWise 6.0 (Email and Calendar)
Learn how to use GroupWise to manage and prioritize your time.
The features of email, calendar, notes and tasks are explored
in detail.
Workshops
For those people who find it difficult to get away for a full
day of training, a short 90 minute workshop may be just what
you need. Workshops focus on tip, tricks and special features
to get you up to speed fast.
