Research at Deer Lodge Centre
Information for Researchers
Deer Lodge Centre welcomes researchers in all fields to take part in the resources, skills and other opportunities that are available for scientific inquiry. We currently host research projects in medicine, nursing, psychology, clinical nutrition, business administration, and environmental science, covering subject areas from dementia to military psychiatry.
Research at DLC is coordinated through the Research Program, which is overseen by the program manager and the DLC Research Committee. Our goal is to ensure efficient access for researchers, support projects relevant to DLC's strategic operating goals, and build the transfer of knowledge from research to applied clinical and non-clinical practices.
Gaining access for research
Research access is the last stage of preparation before any study can begin. The goal of the access review process is to ensure that researchers will be adequately resourced in their investigations, and that the day-to-day operations of the Centre are not impeded by the study. Access application is not an ethics review process. Prior to applying for access, you must have the following in place:
- For clinical studies, your study protocol must have passed an ethics review at an accredited university or college. You must have all the documentation necessary for your study in order to apply for access, such as consent forms, questionnaires, and so on.
- For non-clinical studies, you must have a protocol (project description), and evidence of your eligibility status (see below).
All access requests are now done electronically through a paperless system. To apply for access, see the Forms and Policies page to begin.
Once we receive your application, we will assign you a study code for future reference. We will then review your application and reply to you, usually within 10 working days, at which time we usually either approve a study or request further clarification. In the meantime, we will provide you with a study summary form that we will ask you to complete. You can see examples of current summaries on the Current Research page.
Once a study has been approved for access, you will receive an electronic package featuring:
- A letter of permission from the Chief Operating Officer
- A form detailing your official contact at DLC, should you have further questions or any difficulties
- A Knowledge Translation form (also available online) to be filled out once your study is complete.
Who is eligible to do research at Deer Lodge?
Individuals or teams qualify to apply for access in various ways:
- Faculty members of accredited universities or accredited university programs can apply, using their own ethics review boards
